Winning the Unseen Spiritual Battle Pt. 1

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 We are human, but we don't wage war as humans do. 4 We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

As the Apostle Paul is writing these words he was experiencing persecution from those who were speaking against him and stirring up doubt in the Corinthian church about his authority as an apostle. Notice how Paul explains in verse 3 that though “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.” The word war in the Greek language means – to fight. Paul clarifies that this is a different kind of war that does not involve the tools or weapons used in a traditional physical war. This “fight” is against the spirits of the kingdom of darkness.

Listen to what Paul states in Ephesians 6:12, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

This “unseen” spiritual war is one that every born-again believer will experience. Examples of spiritual warfare are: 1. Being tempted to sin. 2. Spirits of wickedness using people to come against us physically and with words. 3. Arguments and confusion among God’s people in an attempt to hinder God’s work.

Without supernatural strength and ability to fight against these unseen spirits of wickedness we would be completely defenseless and never stand a chance of winning the war. Praise God we have hope in knowing we are not alone and have supernatural weapons to fight in this war and win as found in verse 4 and 5. Paul clearly says we have “God’s mighty weapons.” We can use God’s mighty weapons of prayer, praise, worship, and speaking His Word to “knock down” strongholds, “destroy” false arguments and “capture” rebellious thoughts.

So be encouraged people of God. No matter what our spiritual enemies may have planned against us, it is no match for the “mighty weapons of God. WE HAVE THE VICTORY!
